| An emulator duplicates (provides an emulation of) the functions of one system using a different system, so that the second system behaves like (and appears to be) the first system. This focus on exact reproduction of external behavior is in contrast to some other forms of computer simulation, which can concern an abstract model of the system being simulated.
A console emulator is a program that allows a computer or modern console (cross-console emulation) to emulate a video game console. Emulators are most often used to play older video games on personal computers and modern video game consoles, but they are also used to translate games into other languages, to modify (or hack) existing games, and in the development process of homebrewed demos and new games for older systems. | |

| Basically the emulators are applications that let you play other systems game on a different system, example The GBA/DS emulators there are for PC. Although, the emulators aren't 100% fully working, but it's a good thing if you don't want to buy a system to play the games. Other examples of emulators are the NES/SNES/GB/GBC/ect emulators for DS, well you need a flashcart that can run homebrew to use them. | |
